So-Cal High School Cycling League Fundraiser at Paramount Ranch on Feb 19

Friday, January 7th, 2011

From Matt Gunnell, Executive Director, SoCal High School Cycling League

The SoCal High School Cycling League has its first ever fundraising ride on Saturday February 19th at the historic Paramount Ranch which is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in Agoura Hills.

Registration is now open at the event website! You can get more information and then register online, or you can find the website linked from the SoCal League website by looking under the “Events” tab.

To register we are asking adults to commit to raising a minimum of $125 and youth to raising a minimum of $75. There is no additional registration fee on top of that commitment! You will receive snacks while riding, an event t-shirt, a BBQ supper after the ride, and live music during much of the ride and at the BBQ. You’ll even find Bob Foster (our race EMT) and his crew roaming the event on horseback.

Once you register, you will be emailed a link to your personal pledge page. You can email the link to supporters or post it on facebook. Your supporters will be able to pledge funds for your ride, and be recognized, directly from your page.

The ride is suitable for team riders, parents, coaches, friends, family, and anyone who supports the sustainability of high school cycling in SoCal. Clubs have the opportunity to raise funds for their own clubs without having to put on their own fundraiser. Be sure to tell your supporters to enter the name of your club when registering. All funds raised over the first $25 will be split 50/50 between the League and your club! Ambitious clubs can really help take care of a lot of season expenses.

The ride takes place on a 2.5 mile dirt loop of single and double track. Each loop brings riders back through the main street of an old west town movie set. The goal is not to complete the most laps. The goal is to ride for 3 hours straight (noon to 3:00 pm) while building fitness and connecting with great folks who support the League.

MWBA Pancake Breakfast

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

On Sunday, April 24th, the annual MWBA Pancake Breakfast will be happening at Cobb Estate in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest.

For the past several years, the Pancake Breakfast has been held the same weekend as the Santa Monica Mountains Trail Days, a full-weekend of camping, trailwork and riding at Point Mugu. We’ve always felt it more important to be out getting our hands dirty and working on trails, and CORBA hasn’t been at the pancake breakfast for the past few years.

This year we’ll be able to do both!  A few of the CORBA volunteers will head back from Point Mugu a day early to join in the festivities at Cobb Estate.

CORBA volunteers will be there to talk about trail issues, promote trail stewardship and mountain biking, and to just be a part of the fun. If you’re not a CORBA member, you’ll be able to join on the spot. If you are, you can renew.

Come out to the Pancake Breakfast and show your support for trail stewardship in the area. Now, more than ever, our local trails need it.

See you there!

Rwanda Fundraiser Ride is Saturday, April 10th

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

From the Warrior Society Weekly News

Announcing the 4th Annual 50 Mile Ride for Project Rwanda

When: Saturday, April 10, 2010

Where: Staging and post-ride party at Cooks Corner (19152 Santiago Canyon Road Trabuco Canyon, CA 92679).

Register: Online at www.50mileride.com

Entry Fee: $50 (5 Mile Fun Ride – $25). Online registration closes April 8. All entries receive free custom dri-fit t-shirt.

Check-in: Avoid the lines on event day – pick up rider bags on Friday April 9 from 11am to 6pm at Rock n Road Cyclery (on Santa Margarita Pkwy in Mission Viejo).

Purpose: To raise funds and build awareness for Project Rwanda (www.ProjectRwanda.org). Those that have participated before know that the 50 Mile Ride is a “ride”, not a race. Cyclists participate for a lot of reasons: some for the challenge of riding further on a mountain bike than ever before, some because they love the Project Rwanda cause, some for the fun of sharing the day with tons of their mtb buddies. The event has raised almost $100,000 for Project Rwanda in its first three years. These funds are making a huge difference in furthering the economic development of Rwanda through initiatives based on the bicycle as a tool and symbol of hope.

50 mile, 25 mile, and 5 mile fun ride options are available. 50 mile option starts at 7:00am (check-in at 6:15am), 25 mile option starts at 9:00am (check-in at 8:15am), and 5 mile family fun ride starts at 11:00am (check in at 10:30am). Details at www.50mileride.com.

Post-Ride Party: After the ride stick around for a BBQ sponsored by Cook’s Corner, starting at noon. There will be a HUGE raffle (starting at approx 3:00pm) with tons of cool prizes including a Grand Prize raffle of a Trigon full-carbon bike valued at over $9000. Plus, there’ll be massage therapists, booths from local bike shops, and a live auction for a genuine Project Rwanda Coffee Bike. Bring your friends and family to share in the fun!
