CORBA Kids Club fun rides are held at various locations around the Santa Monica Mountains. These kid-friendly organized rides led by volunteer parents are intended to build confidence, promote health and wellness, share knowledge of trails and riding techniques, teach respect for each other and the environment, and inspire the next generation of mountain bikers and CORBA volunteers! Children of all ages and abilities may attend (parent or guardian must be present and sign a waiver), and trailers/trail-a-bikes are welcome. Rides will take place the last Saturday of every month starting this November 29, so check our calendar to find upcoming rides!

Kids Club Fun Rides Return!
Tuesday, October 21st, 2014Sullivan Canyon Work Update, July 3
Thursday, July 3rd, 2014The latest news from Mike Harriel of So Cal Gas regarding construction as they move closer to the mandated test on its pipelines in Sullivan Canyon.
Beginning July 8th
· We will conduct a bird survey to determine if any nesting birds are in the area of our work. If there are, the project will be delayed.
· If all is well with the nesting birds, we will work with a certified arborist to trim trees that could sustain damaged by construction equipment. The trimming will occur at the direction of the arborist and only the minimum necessary.
· An active beehive will have to be removed for the safety of our employees and users of the canyon.
Beginning July 14th
· Construction mobilization will occur. You will notice the moving in of water tanks and other construction equipment. Tanks and equipment will be staged away from the trail. All soil will be returned to the excavation it is removed from.
· A fire prevention plan is in effect to protect the canyon.
As mentioned previously, the canyon trail will remain open. Signs will provide advance notice when the canyon is closed for hydro testing, which will occur over the course of one day. Signs will also be posted at the drop-in trails. For safety reasons, we don’t want any members of the public dropping in to the canyon during the test, so please abide by the posted closing.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Report on September’s Kids Club Ride in Sycamore Canyon and Photo Gallery
Wednesday, October 30th, 2013The CORBA Kids Club had the opportunity to view and ride among budding native plants post fires this past September. It was unseasonably hot, so Sycamore was the coolest place to ride that day, and the temperatures continued to increase as we headed North from Pt. Magu State Park along the Two Foxes trail. We have a photo gallery of the ride for September!
The IMBA Annual Take Your Kid Mountain Biking was cancelled last month due to expected high winds and fire danger. The next ride is Saturday, November 2 at Malibu Creek State Park. Hope to see you there!

February CORBA Kids Ride – Cheeseboro Canyon
Monday, February 25th, 2013On February 2nd, four kids and and four adults rode Cheeseboro Canyon through Sulpher Springs and to the first big wall. New riders Josh and son, Zachary joined us again, and Joy and RJ came back after several months. Larry hiked along side son, Elliot who was determined to ride on training wheels, and he did!
It was a perfect day; the weather warmed up gradually, and the kids had lots of opportunities to practice trail ettiquette as the canyon was very busy with runners training for the upcoming marathon in March.
Click here to see pictures from this fabulous ride.
Next ride March 2 at 9 a.m. Sullivan Canyon, Brentwood side. Hope to see you and your kids there!
CORBA Kids Club Rides in the New Year
Friday, January 25th, 2013Despite being rained out last month, and being busy with the holidays, the CORBA Kids Club has been busy riding the trails!
Two new families joined us for January’s ride: Josh and Zachary, and Geoff, his son Oliver, and
Oliver’s friend, Jack. Welcome, and we hope you continue to ride with us!
In January we rode the North Grasslands trail, on a clear but cold morning that
saw frost and some ice on the trail! We had a total of 14 riders — 8 kids and 5 adults. It warmed up to
a beautiful, perfect day.
Next ride will be Cheeseboro Canyon on Saturday February 2nd. Meet in the upper (dirt) parking lot at 9 a.m.
Ride And Mingle (RAM) Nov 17 Building Momentum
Saturday, October 6th, 2012In celebration of CORBA’s 25th Anniversary, on November 17 we will Ride up to The Hub in Topanga State Park and Mingle for a photo opportunity to show land managers and the trail user community that mountain bikers can and do coexist on the trails. We are hoping for 250 (or more) riders. Save the date and spread the word!
We’ll meet at 10am and around 10:30 we’ll take the group shot. We’ll then hand out cash prizes, with the top cash amount being $1,000. We’ll also be having a 50/50 drawing, so bring $20 in cash and put it into the pot, with the lucky winner getting half of whatever is collected and the other half going to CORBA.
How do you get to The Hub? There are several trail head locations you can start from. Reseda Blvd., Trippet Ranch, Sullivan Canyon, Mulholland Drive (dirt) from the east (Encino) or west (Woodland Hills), Will Rogers State Historic Park, Westridge Fireroad, and San Vicente Mountain Park (Nike Site), to name a few.
Check this map with all the trails and trailheads. The Hub is marked with a blue dot and the letter “z.”
Or, download this map. The Hub and the major trailheads are circled. Print it and bring it with you so you don’t get lost!
Though no RSVP is required, you can let us know you’re planning to Ride and Mingle on CORBA’s Meetup group.

Stellar Weather Graces First Two CORBA Kids Rides of 2012
Friday, February 17th, 2012The CORBA Kids Club started the New Year off right with a return to Sullivan Canyon in January and a Malibu Creek Park ride in February.
January’s Sullivan Canyon ride saw the kids improving their skills, with everybody riding over the cement waffle blocks that most of them walked in December.
The downed tree still blocked most of the main trail, and we used this as an opportunity for a snack break before heading back to the cars. Everybody showed great improvement on the hills. Five adults and six kids participated. Check out the pictures from this great ride.
The CORBA Kids Club explored the Grasslands Trail during February’s Malibu Creek State Park ride. Dave taught the kids how to do a break-check on their bikes, discussed proper helmet fit, and how to handle horses on the trail. The morning started out cold, but everybody was pealing off layers by the time we hit some of the big hills. The skies were clear, the air was fresh, and it was a perfect day for a ride. We had the single-track route pretty much to ourselves until we came across a large group of MBU trainees on our way back.
There was a very challenging hill before our first break, and most everybody walked up, but two of the kids went down it twice. We also did some hiking sans bikes, all of which you can see on the photo gallery for this ride. Four adults and four kids, including two first-timers, participated. There is a lot more to explore in Malibu Creek State Park, so we will be back there in March.
Hope to see you at the next ride:
Saturday March 3 in Malibu Creek State Park. Meet at 9 a.m. in the lower parking lot near the wooden stairs. Email kidsclub@corbamtb.com for more information.
CORBA Kids Club’s Sullivan Canyon Ride
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011A small but enthusiastic group rode Sullivan Canyon on Saturday December 3rd. Dave and Nolan, Kat and Josiah, and John and Ethan met in Brentwood, where the weather was cool and the winds were calm. Dave gave everybody a brief overview of the trail ahead, stressing the importance of speed control down the first paved hill.
The group rode the gradual incline for about 2 miles, some choosing to walk rather than ride over the concrete waffle blocks that dot the area. A downed tree blocked the rest of the trail at about 2 and 1/2 miles in, so the group took that as a sign to take a break, have a snack and explore the area. Kat found a small bit of California Sage, and introduced the boys to what some hikers call “Cowboy Cologne.” The boys pretended to be characters from Star Wars, and then Kat pointed out the large leaves on the trail, which were bigger than most of their faces.
The ride back took about 15 minutes because it was all downhill, followed by one challenging paved uphill back to the cars. Check out the photo gallery of the ride, and you can also see the downed tree. Because it was a small group and everybody enjoyed the location so much, we’ll be back at Sullivan Canyon on January 7th, and we hope to see more of you there! Meet on the Brentwood side: http://www.socalmtb.com/socal/trails/sullivan.htm.
