The Fat Tire Festival needs help setting up the cyclocross course on Saturday. If anyone is willing to help contact me.

A bunch my riding buddies and myself attended this year’s Fat Tire Festival. I just wanted to commend you on a job well done. The organization of the event is always top-notch. From the sponsors and vendors, to the volunteers and to everyone involved, a BIG thank you. I would like to make a suggestion on the poker ride, why not give the top five hands all prizes instead of just the top hand a prize and the rest raffle tickets? It would make riding the course and going to all the poker hands stations that much more rewarding. I understand that by winning raffle tickets, it increases the chances of winning more prizes which is pretty neat. The only reason I feel the change would be good is because as the raffle/swag bags were being handed out, we observed a volunteer behind the scenes looking into the prize bags and swapping items around from bag to bag. It looked like the pick of the litter was being kept and the rest were being handed out to the people that bought raffle tickets. If the volunteers were given bags after the event, then I understand. It just looked weird to be doing that in front of everyone.

      Luis,

Thanks for your comments. We’ll take into consideration your idea of giving out prizes to all poker hand winners. Regarding your comment about raffle prizes being swapped from bag to bag and kept out, it is quite the contrary. We were pulling items from bags and consolidating them into other bags for raffle winners so that we could maximize ticket holders’ chances of winning. Be assured that all items that were donated to the Fat Tire Fest raffle were given away, with the exception of some Ergon grips and innertubes donated by REI that were inadvertently overlooked in the bagging process. Any items left over from the raffle are used for things such as membership enticements, trail work swag, and our Youth Adventures at-risk youth mountain biking program.
