There was moisture in the ground from the week&#8217;s rain, temperatures were cool, and the crew were able to ride to and from the work site via the Gabrielino trail. It was the first time we had been able to ride all the way down to the 16th switchback without interruption.\u00a0The volunteers who rode down Ken Burton trail\u00a0were all in agreement that the efforts\u00a0of the group over the previous five months had been well-worth the experience.<\/p>\n<p>We were fortunate enough to have several SoCal High school league student-athletes and coaches join us for the day, along with members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imtbtrails.com\/forum\/threads\/march-kb-trailwork-days-sun-3-13-sat-3-19.4024\/\" target=\"_blank\">IMTBTrails.com<\/a> mountain bike forum out of Santa Clarita.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6504\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/corbamtb.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160319020-Ken-Burton-Trailwork.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6504\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6504\" class=\" wp-image-6504\" src=\"http:\/\/corbamtb.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160319020-Ken-Burton-Trailwork.jpg\" alt=\"This was a heavily damaged section\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/corbamtb.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160319020-Ken-Burton-Trailwork.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/corbamtb.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160319020-Ken-Burton-Trailwork-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/corbamtb.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160319020-Ken-Burton-Trailwork-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/corbamtb.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160319020-Ken-Burton-Trailwork-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/corbamtb.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160319020-Ken-Burton-Trailwork-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6504\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This was a heavily damaged section<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With the major brush work completed, the crew split into groups, concentrated on re-cutting the bench along a heavily damaged section of the trail, restoring outslope, and removing remaining roots and stubs from the tread.<\/p>\n<p>Another crew worked diligently to rebuild the 16th switchback, using rock extracted from the tread to build an outside retaining wall on top of the old wire basket retaining structure\u00a0that had failed. \u00a0By day&#8217;s end, the switchback was completely rebuilt.
